Why Neuro Matters

The 2025 instalment explored the theme, ‘Why Neuro Matters: A Symposium on the Future of Neurological Care‘. The evening featured two keynote speakers, Professor Patrick Kwan and Chris Dougherty, who were then joined by lived experience representative, Louise Ryan, for an informative Q&A session.

Former CEO of Epilepsy Queensland and a key contributor to the Neuro Matters Report, Chris Dougherty brought his wealth of insight into the national neurological landscape to the Thinking Outside the Box stage. He spoke on the report’s findings and subsequent developments – including the Neurological Alliance of Queensland’s priorities, and an update on the Queensland Governments’ $10.45m commitment to neurological health.

A global leader in epilepsy care and research, Professor Kwan is pioneering the integration of AI into clinical treatment. His keynote presentation touched on insights from the groundbreaking PERSONAL trial and discussed why we should listen to our neurons more.
