Bequests

We come from all walks of life. You can make a difference by touching the lives of people close to your heart.

Epilepsy does not stop your dreams and it shouldn’t limit your ability to live life to the fullest.

Please consider leaving a lasting legacy that will help people with epilepsy and their families.

Your Will ensures assets are distributed to those closest to you and the charitable causes you care about.

Always seek the advice of a Solicitor or Trustee Company when preparing your Will.

There are three kinds of bequests:

  • Specific- bequest is a cash sum, shares, property or other items of market value
  • Residual- bequest is the remains after other bequests have been paid
  • General- bequest is your entire estate, a specific share or percentage of your estate

Bequest wording

The wording of a bequest is very important and the preferred wording is as follows:

“ I give and bequeath ….to Epilepsy Queensland Inc.PO Box 1457, Coorparoo DC Qld 4151,

To be applied to the general charitable purposes of Epilepsy Queensland Inc. and in respect of such, legacy I declare as follows

(a) A general charitable intent shall apply;

(b) The receipt of the Treasurer of Epilepsy Queensland Inc. shall constitute a full and sufficient discharge to my executors and trustees; and

(c) My executors and trustees shall not be obliged to see or inquire into the application of money or assets, the subject of such legacy”
