Epilepsy Queensland are urging all Australians to Get Seizure Smart this September. The Get Seizure Smart campaign asks the question – could you help if someone had a seizure? With 1 in 10 people experiencing a seizure the campaign aims to increase Australia’s ability to:

1. Recognise the signs of a seizure
2. Respond with seizure first aid

Correct seizure first aid can save a life, prevent injury, or provide comfort. Recognising different types of seizures and responding appropriately can also reduce stigma for the person needing assistance.

In 2021 the campaign will focus on the two groups of people- parents and older Australians, as epilepsy is most commonly diagnosed in children 5 years and under and those aged 60 years and over. One in ten people and 1 in 20 children will have a seizure – could you help?

Through the month you can follow us on our social media channels- Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn to share a variety of seizure smart information.

You can download our FREE seizure first aid resources below and encourage those around you to share the #GetSeizureSmart message. Let’s together create an Australia that can #recogniseandrespond.
