What is the Seizure Smart September campaign?
Seizure Smart September is Epilepsy Queensland’s annual awareness campaign assisting people to understand seizures and learn basic seizure first aid.
- Seizure Smart September is 1 to 30 September, encompassing in World First Aid Day on Saturday 12 September 2020
- Our key message for Seizure Smart September is: 1 in 10 Queenslanders will have a seizure in their lifetime. Your knowledge of basic seizure first aid could save the life of someone you know.
- It is a grassroots campaign dedicated to increasing understanding of seizures, basic seizure first aid and the reduction of stigma and fear
- Epilepsy Queensland’s aim is for at least one person in every household to know basic seizure first aid
- During Seizure Smart September, Epilepsy Queensland will also be raising funds for our epilepsy and seizure first aid information, training and support services by selling $2 awareness tokens and promoting the 1 in 10 challenge throughout Queensland.
Anyone can contribute to Seizure Smart September including people living with epilepsy, family members and friends, health and disability professionals and educators.
One of the easiest ways is through sharing Seizure Smart September messages on social media or in newsletters.

Change your Facebook profile picture frame
Keep an eye out for our posts on Facebook on 1 September and 1 October asking you to add our Seizure Smart September and 1 in 10 challenge frames to your profile picture. It’s as simple as clicking the ‘Try it’ button on the post. Once you’ve added the frame to your profile picture you can also add some text to the post on your timeline letting people know why you are supporting Seizure Smart September and how they can get involved.

How to share a post to your timeline or stories (Facebook instructions)
To share a post you see from Epilepsy Queensland on your News Feed:
Below a post, click “Share” in the bottom right.
Select where you want to share the post. Depending on the post’s privacy settings, you may see the following options:
- Share Now
- Share…
- Share to Your Story Now
- Send As Message
- Share in a Group
- Share on a Friend’s Timeline
- Share to a Page
Note: You can’t share posts with people who weren’t part of the original audience (example: a post shared with “Friends” can’t be shared with “Public”).
How to share a post to Instagram Stories
To share an Epilepsy Queensland post from your Feed to your story:
- Tap below the photo or video in Feed.
- Tap Add post to your story.
- Tap Send To.
- Tap Share next to Your Story > Done.
N.B. If you want to share to your Instagram Feed, you will need to use an app such as Repost.
